Bog and
Bone Spavins affect the hock joint. Bog Spavins are an excess of fluid in the
largest joint of the hock joint area.
It is more commonly seen in younger horses, although it can occur at any age. The increase in fluid can be a result of a blow to the
area, degeneration of bone or cartilage, or joint infection. Enlargement of the Hock area on the front and inside of the joint
can be accompanied by various levels of lameness depending upon the cause of the condition.
Bone Spavins are a result of degeneration of bone in the small joints of the hock. More often seen in older horses it is a common cause of hind limb
lameness. The Lameness can range from mild stiffness with toe dragging to quite severe
